My Green Smoothie Surprise

Green Smoothie

A green smoothie make with all the ingredients listed in this article.

Two weeks ago I started drinking a green smoothie every morning for health. My Green Smoothie Surprise came this morning when I stepped on the scale and found I had lost 5 1/2 pounds without any work. I have been drinking fresh juice and smoothies on and off for a while but didn’t get serious until two weeks ago. I will admit that I go a little heavy on what I put into the ones I make for my wife and I. By the way, she lost 4 1/2 pounds in 8 days and is now a green smoothie fan. Here is what I put into my smoothies;

Start with about 6 ounces of water in the bottom of your blender and add the following;

1/2 Banana.

about 3 ounces organic blueberries

1 slice of pineapple, about 1/2 thick, cut into small chunks

Small handful of organic spinach

1 stem of beet tops including the red part, diced

! stalk of celery

A few sprigs of parsley

A few sprigs of cilantro

2 leaves of Romaine lettuce

1/2 paddle cleaned cactus

1 or 2 dandelion leaves and stalk

1 or 2 broccoli florets

1/2 oz. hemp seeds

1/2 oz chia seeds

1/2 oz Flex seeds

1 cup of shaved ice.

We have a very powerful blender that turns all this into a really great green smoothie in a couple of minutes or less. There are so many vitamin’s and minerals packed into this drink that you feel the boost of energy almost before you finish drinking it. As an added bonus, you won’t feel hungry for hours.

You are going to be hearing a lot more from me about adding smoothies and raw foods to your life style in the future. It’s the only “non-diet” that I have ever been on where I lose weight without ever feeling like I am depriving myself of anything.

I want to take a moment to share with you how I got started with the green smoothies. A couple of months ago, I met a young lady by the name of Cher Fauvel that has a passion for green smoothies. During the last couple of months I have been following her at http://www.rawfoodenergybenefits.comWhen I started following her, I was only making green smoothies for myself because my wife was not sure she would like them. I admit I sometimes get some strange shades of green in my smoothies. It seems that Cher has the same challenge with her husband, which only proved to me that anyone can do it if they really have the desire.

If you are interested in getting started, or just want to learn more about the many benefits of raw food and Green smoothies, I would encourage you to visit her website and download her free booklet of recipes and guide to getting started. She shares a lot of information in a very relaxed way that you will enjoy.

Of course I also want you will continue to read my blog posts as I share recipes and healthy Food ideas for your diet and lifestyle.

Great post, Chef, and I have found the same thing, that adding a green smoothie to my daily routine helps me lose weight and have more energy. Your recipe is really packed with lots of goodies, and I can’t wait to try it! I appreciate the plug for Cher’s website. I really have learned a lot from her, too. I was just lecturing my kiddos at lunchtime today, saying that they would crave whatever they tend to eat: if they eat lots of junk (candy, chips, cookies, etc.) that’s what their bodies will crave, but if they eat lots of good stuff (raw fruits, veggies, whole grains, etc.) then that is what their bodies will want. Then I admitted that the only “junk” my body ever craves is a diet Dr. Pepper, and I don’t keep them in the house just because of that! I have to drive to town to buy one.

It is really hard to explain to young people that mac and cheese is made up of chemicals and
the cheese color, is it just that – color. It is loaded with chemicals that make you want more, That’s how
the food companies make their money. Show them the sugar content in “kids” cereal. I stopped by
Micky D’s yesterday because I had a coupon for a cup of coffee. I looked at the calorie count
for a fish sandwich with fries and a soda. Enough to blow your whole calorie count for the day.
A while back you said everyone should come to my house for some fig cake, I think we should all
go to Cher’s for a smoothie.

Hmm, seems to be an epidemic of green smoothies going around! ;-) I also read Cher’s blog and have decided to do a modified version of her juice/smoothie cleanse. I had my green smoothie for breakfast (baby spinach leaves, avocado, chunks of mango and pineapple, honey-flavored Greek yogurt, and apple juice); a “pinkish” smoothie for lunch (mix of strawberries, mango, and peaches; plus the same yogurt, spinach leaves, and avocado, along with cranberry juice).

Then I had two tacos for supper, with extra lettuce and tomatoes (found these sweet little tomatoes called “Cherubs”). I’ve also had orange juice, water, and then one glass of almond milk with my supper. I think my only “cheat” food and greatest temptation is chocolate – I had a few mini Rolos after supper!

I forgot, my wife made the smoothie this morning and she always adds prune yogurt. I like Greek yogurt
myself. We had the avocado/bean tacos for lunch with mango salsa. As for the chocolate I will give you
my two cents worth. #1 It’s not cheating because you are always in charge or what you eat and you can not
take away “all” of life’s little pleasures. and #2 Try to switch to dark chocolate. At Walgreens,as well
as other places, you can get dark chocolate with mint, or orange or raspberries or my favorite Chili’s.
I consider a couple of squares of chocolate at night as a reward for a job well done during the day.

  3. I’ve never actualy HAD a green smoothie before but after going through this particulary dreary winter and gaining 5 pounds in the process, I’ve been searching for some recipes. This one looks great and I just happen to have all the ingredients except the chia seed.

I’ll give it a try tomorrow!

    Thanks you!
